Demonflame Cult
A downloadable prototype for Windows and macOS
This game is what happens when you get carried away with a prototype and it gains a life of its own. Originally intended to be a proof-of-concept for an experimental card-based RPG battle system, it became a complete first chapter of what could possibly become a full game.
However, none of the pieces really come together into a cohesive whole. The battle system turned out to be too slow, the dialogue too wordy, and the rogue-like elements underdeveloped. At least in my opinion, the whole thing doesn't work, and should be scrapped and rethought. In way, the experiment was a success, as it proved that some combinations of ideas should be best left on paper.
On the other hand, it's a shame to throw it all away. I guarantee that it is at least interesting, even if it isn't all that fun.
I invite you to take a look. Maybe suggest some alternative ideas. Or, just chuckle in agreement that, yep, it's not quite there.
Features:
• A unique blend of card and RPG battle systems
• A dash of rogue-like: battles are tough, healing is limited, but you gain a different power each time you retry
• A bit of deck-building: your equipment determines the cards you bring
• A sprinkling of progression: some new cards are locked until you meet their conditions
• Tile-based conditions: some cards are stronger if you start a battle on a different tile
• An attempt at lore and world-building
• 1-2 hours of playtime
Credits:
• Showcases art & music assets from Cursed Kingdom by Dream Circle & partners
• Uses Heist music pack by Murray Atkinson
